1010 hrs Cuticchio, Sicily
After a few days rest the Operational Bell was once more heard through the Camp. A formation of 12 Baltimores, led by Maj. Jandrell, took off at 1010 Hrs. and attacked the Rail Junction at Y.9538, (Map Reference 1:500,000 MESSINA, Sheet NE 38/14). The target was straddled in light sticks and three direct hits scored on different apex. Escort shot down one enemy fighter (M.E. 109 ?) seen to hit sea, burst into flame, Pilot baled. Fairly intense and accurate H.A.A Weather visibility good. Two aircraft sustained minor damage by H.A.A and A/Sgt Buchler was wounded in the head. He was admitted to 21 M.F.H.“Oprep” No. 368 Sortie Report and Crew List.Major Cormack, Lieut Lombaard, 2nd Lieut Pearce and four other ranks left for Cairo by air, on R.T.U. Eight Ground Crew, posted R.T.U left to-day.
