About
Onoorwinlik — Afrikaans: "unconquerable" — was the motto of No. 21 Squadron, South African Air Force. This project reconstructs the squadron's history from its Operations Record Book, preserved in two independent transcriptions.
The Squadron
No. 21 Squadron SAAF was formed in May 1941 and served in East Africa and the Western Desert. The squadron flew various types including Marylands, Baltimores, and Bostons on tactical bomber and reconnaissance missions.
This Project
The goal is a complete, accurate, publicly accessible transcription of the squadron's ORB — corrected where witnesses conflict, annotated where context aids understanding, and presented in a form that respects both the original document's character and modern readability.
