APPENDIX "AAA"285SQUADRON ROUTINE ORDERS. No. 51/44. 21 SQUADRON, S.A.A.F.ByLT. COL. A. C. JANDRELL. D.F.C.Officer Commanding,21 Squadron, S.A.A.F.30th May, 1944.Para. 193. DISCIPLINE - BIFERNO LANDING GROUND.There have been many instances recently of personnelindiscriminately crossing the steel runway of the Biferno LandingGround.This practice is to cease forthwith. Anyone proceeding tothe beach must keep well clear of the runway, and even then mustmaintain a sharp lookout for aircraft taking off or coming in to land.It is repeated for the information of all personnel in thevicinity of Biferno Landing Ground that no vehicle other than thefire crash tender, ambulance and that of the Flying Control Officer,is allowed to proceed along or across the runway, and then only whenon duty.Should it be necessary for any vehicle to proceed onto therunway, the driver of such vehicle must obtain prior permission fromthe Control Tower.Drivers of all vehicles driven along the taxi tracks areto be instructed to observe a speed limit of 10 m.p.h.(A.R.O. 8/1944. 12. dd. 28. 5. 55)Para. 194. CONSUMPTION OF SHELL FISH.The consumption of uncooked shellfish (e.g. Oysters, Mussels,Winkles, etc.) is forbidden. These shellfish inhabit coastal waterswhich are heavily contaminated by sewage and are in consequencedangerous casual agents of typhoid fever.(C.R.O. 29. para. 4. dd. 20. 5. 44).Para. 195.
