BOMBER COMBAT REPORT 'D' 142 12 Baltimores in two boxes of six, No. 2 box behind to starboard and stepped down. Boxes in two Vics of three in line astern stepped down. 12 P40's of 33rd. Bomber Escort & 12 P40's of 99th. Bomber Escort. U.S.A.A.F. 6 ME 109 F's in two vics of three each at 7500 ft. Enemy attacked from port to starboard and above with one vic. Total duration approx. two minutes. The E/A dived down on to the Baltimore formation with three A/C in line astern, the remaining three staying above. The Baltimores replied with fire from the top gunners whenever any E/A was considered within range. Three Baltimores damaged Cat. 1, two by fighter action and one by AA. One wireless operator gunner seriously wounded. One ME 109 F seen smoking after dogfight with bomber escort. EA continued dive past and below bomber formation.
