Transcriber's Historical & Tactical Notes: * Targeting the Coastal Artery (Montesilvano): * Strategic Location: The target was the "ROAD and RAIL BRIDGES near MONTESILVANO". Montesilvano is situated immediately north of Pescara on the Adriatic coast. The bridges here span the Saline River and were vital choke points on the coastal highway (Via Adriatica) and the railway line supplying German forces defending the Gustav Line. * Tactical Execution ("Vic Bombing"): The report notes "Vic bombing merging into one pattern". A "Vic" is a standard V-shaped formation of three aircraft. This formation allowed for concentrated bomb patterns. The description suggests the individual Vics dropped their loads in such close succession that the explosions merged into a single area of destruction, achieving "Direct Hit on railway and Road". * Risk Management (No Escort): * Unescorted Mission: Unlike the morning mission on the same day (Appendix "L"), this afternoon raid had "NO fighter escort".
