13 Baltimores off by 0825 Hrs from BIFERNO L/G to bomb AMMO Factory at C001069 (Latitude : **42° 15' 55'' N **Longitude : **14° 00' 04'' E**) (11 miles S.W. of CHIETI). One a/c returned with bombs after 20 minutes due to inter-comm trouble. After R/v over base with 223 Sqdn (leading) formation set course for target and attacked at 0903 Hrs from 10500 on a course of 050º. First box straddled target with short sticks from B999067 to C002070. Second box bombed astern and slightly to right in a long pattern from B998065 to C005074. Numerous direct hits on target, roads, railway and buildings to N.E. All a/c returned by 0955 Hrs. Weather clear over target with slight haze; 3/10 at 4000' en route. 4 Spitfires provided area cover. Slight L/A/A (inaccurate) from target area: Slight H/A/A from CHIETI area, also inaccurate.
