12 Baltimores took off from BIFERNO L/G between 1229 and 1240 Hrs to bomb supply dumps in the vicinity of ZAGAROLO RR Stn (area G021585, 016584, 020575, 023576). After R/V with 12 Baltimores of 223 Sqnd at VINCHIATURO the formation flet to target via AVEZZANO and returned the same way. 10/10 Cu and Strata-Cu was encountered en-route 12000' tops, decreasing to 6/10 to 7/10 over target. The formation approached from the S.E. made a dummy run and came out of cloud through a gap, turned in and bombed at 1337 Hrs from 14000-15000' on a course of 105/120º. 1st Box bombed from C0145545 to C023583. 2nd box bombed from G026583 to G020578. Good pattern but no results observed. 1 x 250 GP hang-up. NO enemy opposition. All a/c landed back by 1433 Hrs. 2 M.T. burning at G010585, probably as a result of bombing by fighter bombers shortly before formation attacked.
