12 Baltimores took off from BIFERNO L/G at 1008 Hrs to bomb a FUEL DUMP near MASSA MARTANA (A775649). After R/v with 12 Baltimores of 223 Sqdn and an escort of 16 Spitfires they led on towards target via XXX PERUGIA? Attack took place at 1146 Hrs from 9900' on a course of 160º. A mixed load of 250 lbs (some with Delay fuse) 40 lb G.P. and 30 lb Incendiaries was carried and dropped into a good intermingled pattern. 1st Box from A775647 to A775649. 2nd Box slightly to right from A776648 to A777654. Direct hits on secondary road and on buildings at A777654, starting a fire with whitish smoke. NO other results were observed. There was NO enemy opposition. 7/10 Cu an St.Cu over mountains, 9440' Tops. NO cloud in target area. Visibility good - all a/c landed by 1247 Hrs.
