12 Baltimores airborne from BIFERNO at 1435 Hrs to attack a FACTORY at K960453? (N.E. of POPOLI). After R/v with 223 Sqdn over base formation set course at 1458 Hrs and the two boxes bombed line astern at 1535 Hrs from 15500' on a course of 350º. Pattern of first box commenced in centre of target among main cluster of buildings. Second box merged and continued across river with near misses on two bridges. All bombs of one a/c hung-up - jettisoned safe in sea at J0780. About 8 puffs L/A/A inaccurate from N.E. of target. Last a/c down by 1645 Hrs. NO fighter escort or area cover. Weather en route 4 -9/10 at 15000'. Target area clear and visibility good.
