12 Baltimores airborne from BIFERNO at 1821 hrs to attack road N.E. of POPOLI with the intention of creating a road block. They set course from PENNA POINT at 1854 hrs following 12 Balts of 223 Sqdn. and with fighter escort. 9/10th cumulus 9000' tops hampered location of target and after searching for a gap the formation attacked at 1927 hrs from 13000' on a course of 060º. Lateral error to the left occurred, bombs falling on the side of the mountains from G877992 to G883996. No results are claimed. No movements observed. No enemy opposition. All A/c landed by 2014 hrs.
