12 Balts off by 17.01 hrs to carry out a repeat attack on gun positions near Pontecorvo. Formation set course from base at 17.35 hrs and flew to target via Mignano and Pontecorvo. 10/10th cloud, 10,000' tops, encountered westward of Larno decreasing toward target to 3/10th Cu. 9,000' tops. 1st box attacked briefed target (G. 662177) from 13,000' on a course of 340º at 18.12 Hrs. Leader and Vic leader bombed from G. 670173 to G. 668175. No. 3 on the leader lost his bomb load when opening bomb doors and the remaining 3 A/c in the box bombed on him undershooting considerably from G. 696135 to G. 695139. Second box attacked gun position at G. 682201 at 18.10 Hrs from 12,000' on a course of 270º. Slight lateral error to the left is reported. Haze made observation of results difficult. H.A.A. slight inaccurate in target area, except for one A/c which sustained damage to nose, turret and hydraulic system and belly-landed at Madna on return, A/c Cat. II no casualties to personnel. Remaining A/c landed back at Biferno by 19.30 Hrs.
