11 A/c briefed to attack PONTEBBA M/Yards, but due to unfavourable weather, the Squadron was diverted to CASARSA M/Yards. One A/c returned early due to engine trouble. Escorted by 8 Spitfires from PORTO CORSINI, formation attacked in three boxes (4-3-3) at 1323 hrs., bombing on respective box leaders. Leader of first box experienced bomb door trouble over the target, and only one A/c bombed on Verey, stick falling beyond the M/Yards. Remaining three A/c jettisoned in sea on return. Second and third boxes also overshot – no hits claimed in the target area, but numerous direct hits on buildings immediately North of M/Yards. 3 x 500 and 2 x 250 lbs. bombs hungup – jettisoned. Formation airborne between 1145 – 1446 hrs; slight inaccurate H/A/A from target area; weather - target clear of cloud and visibility good. Two A/c briefed for anti flak duties in support of 21 and 30 Squadrons. Both missed briefed pinpoints, but pattern of 20 lbs bombs were sufficiently close to achieve the desired object.
