12 Baltimores off by 1145 Hrs to bomb RAILWAY BRIDGE at A685715 (Latitude : **42° 50' 10'' N **Longitude : **12° 23' 33'' E**), 3 miles NORTH of TODI. After R/v with 223 Sqdn (21 Leading) formation set course for target at 1212 Hrs. 20 miles WEST of AVEZZANO cloud was encountered and conditions gradually deteriorated to 10/10 in target area. After cruising around a gap in the vicinity of NARNI (where slight inaccurate L/A/A was met) flying conditions under the cloud were tested down to 6500 ft. and found unsatisfactory. All bombs brought back. Last a/c landed 1415 Hrs. Close escort of 8 Spitfires.
