OORLOGSDAGBOEK.—WAR DIARY.NO. 21 SQUADRON, SOUTH AFRICAN AIR FORCE.Van/From 6th January, 1944. (Band/Volume.) Aan/To 8th January, 1944.TORTORELLA.6th.No operations again to-day. A heavy fall of snow duringthe night made the countryside look like a Christmas Card.The snow lay about 4 inches deep and the roofs of the tentswere covered in a white mantle. Snowballing was indulgedin by all ranks. Capt. J.G.J. Krige and Lieut. C.M. Kellerreported for duty.7th.The weather was still unfit for flying although the snowhad stopped falling. Capt. J.A. Sumner, the S.A.A.F. WarArtist, arrived at the Squadron to do some sketches andpaintings of the Squadron activities.8th.The weather cleared sufficiently to allow operations tobe carried out. Twelve aircraft took off to bomb the RailwayStation at San Benedetto. The target was well covered anddirect hits on the Railway line and Station buildings wereobserved.
