NO. 21 SQUADRON, SOUTH AFRICAN AIR FORCE.13th AUGUST, 1943.GALA, SICILY.13thAlthough this was Friday the 13th, the day on which the supersticious people hardly leave their homes, for fear of any mishap, no evil befell the Squadron. The Senior N.C.O.'s even went as far as to arrange a sight-seeing tour, which turned out a very good and interesting trip.Lieut. Thompson, who was admitted to Hospital while the Squadron was still in Africa, arrived by Boston.14thMajor Featherstone and Lieut. Looker, went out to inspect the new camp site for 3 S.A. Wing, and to obtain the site allocated for this Squadron. On arriving back, Major Featherstone gave instructions, that the Squadron had to move the following day, at 0700 hours. The temporary Camp was struck by nightfall and everything was ready for the move.15thEverybody got mobile early in the morning and by 0730 hours, the convoy was formed up, ready to move off. This Squadron was the last to pull out, as we had to wait for Wing and the other two Squadrons to move out first. The first part of the journey, was very slow as the road led through a dangerous deviation, and it took the vehicles quite a long time to get through. Although a lot of trouble was experienced withthe lot of 'clapped' out vehicles the Squadron possessed, everybody arrived safely at the new Camp, before dark.16thEverybody got busy in putting up the various sectiontents and their living tents, soon the [overwritten] War Village, showed signs
